Fall Wedding Trends

When the days become shorter, the air becomes crisper, and pumpkin spice is suddenly the queen of everything, you know that means fall wedding season is right around the corner.

After a hot and humid North Carolina summer, I’m ready to see how our brides incorporate the changing season into their wedding celebrations. Since we design the florals for our couples months in advance of their actual wedding date, I’m always getting a glimpse of up and coming color and design trends.

So, grab yourself a latte (pumpkin spice, of course) while we chat about my top five wedding trends for fall. The photos below are from weddings here on the farm, and the gorgeous florals are all designed by our very own Jenn.

Jewel Tones

I don’t think we can talk about fall weddings without first discussing color. Plum, emerald, navy, burgundy, and gold are the five breakout stars of fall. I mean, this bride’s bouquet says it all. Even her lipstick is perfection:

You can easily incorporate jewel tones in your bridesmaids’ dresses and flowers, or with small pops of color in other places, such as invitations, place settings, and linens.

Gold and emerald (when used in greenery) are two of the easiest fall colors to add as an accent.

Dahlias

Dahlias are the perfect fall flower; they are complete showstoppers! We grow them here on the farm, and what we don’t grow, we source from other farmers, like the wonderful Happy as a Coneflower Farm.

And if you aren’t into jewel tones, white dahlias are classic and gorgeous.

Pampas Grass

I know, I know, you’re thinking to yourself that grass can’t possibly be trendy. But, my friend, not only is pampas grass completely on trend and design-forward, it’s an absolute must have if you’re looking for a modern, slightly bohemian vibe.

And of course, pampas grass is stunning in a bouquet:

Comfort Food

Nothing fancy; just good, old-fashioned comfort food, the kind of meal you’d eat around a campfire, or that you’d make for yourself on a chilly October afternoon. During cocktail hour, treat your guests to tomato soup shooters, paired with mini-grilled cheese sandwiches. Or, how about a s’mores bar? As guests enter the ceremony, greet them with a coffee or hot chocolate bar!

Woodland Accents

You don’t want to go overboard with this, but mother nature puts on gorgeous show each autumn; use it to your advantage. Tall branches of colorful leaves make stunning centerpieces.

Sawing a fallen tree into logs creates quite an impact as a ceremony backdrop, and pinecones make a simple (and classic) display of escort cards.
